Erin's wry wit and unfiltered frankness charms newly single Garrett over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end.

This movie was okay. There were quite a few funny parts near the beginning. The movie slowed a bit in the middle, but overall the movie was good. I liked the chemistry between the three leading male actors and Drew Barrymore.

Thanks, Michael for helpful review. I also recommend the film - but with the STRONG reservation that if Adam Sandler type humor doesn't appeal to you, or feel appropriate for your kids, please be prepared to be offended. This film could have avoided the raunch and been more effective in telling the story.

Charlie Day steals the show

Great Movie, funny, love, romance, passion. I would recomment this movie but now to children.

Boring, stupid, movie. Don't waste your time. Jokes are not funny. I was going to turn it off half-way through but subjected myself to the torture of watching the whole thing. The best part was Charlie Day - if you like him your time would be better spent watching "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia".

Occasionally hilarious rom com about a long-distance relationship. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were really in love when they made this film--and it certainly shows. Christina Applegate also turns in a commendable performance as Barrymore's big sister.

There's a very real chemistry at work between Justin Long and Drew Barrymore in this film. It's unmistakable to anyone who has really loved someone. And I admit, it was that underlying physical heat and strong charisma between them that kept me interested in their story, as a romantic couple, whenever the movie started to drag a little. Helped along, of course, by some outrageous Adam Sandler-style sight-gags and verbal gross-outs - that come out of almost no-where to knock you on the floor with laughter. Hollywood wags will tell you that this movie actually mirrored the couple's very real on-again-off-again love affair that they started in 2005, ended in 2008, then re-ignited in 2009, only to end it again after the release of GOING THE DISTANCE. Whatever... this dvd is worth the wait on OPL... for all the reasons I gave above, but also for Christina Applegate fans (like me). First remembered and loved as Kelly, the dim-witted kid sister in the mid 80's-90's tv sitcom, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN - in GOING THE DISTANCE, she shows what a remarkably funny actress she still is with her personal brand of wit and charm. That deft comedic touch not only compliments her fellow cast members, but sometimes even steals scenes from them, as well. This was her first movie appearance following her double mastectomy in 2008. That made her a modern-day Hollywood heroine of sorts to many - not only for her dogged perseverance in beating cancer - but also for her uncanny ability to bounce back as a comedic actress and still deliver a laugh-out-loud performance like this.

Fair - Going the Distance (2010) 102 min. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long try doing the long distance relationship thing demonstrating all the pitfalls associated with said arrangement. The film is not very funny though it does try hard. Some of the scenes are ridiculous and not very credible. I wish I could say better things about this film - yes, it is watchable but also extremely forgettable.
