I thought that Phantasm was nothing but a big bore and not in the least bit frightening.

This film's demented, little "dimension-hopping" story was pure nonsense that contained no logical coherency, whatsoever.

Had Phantasm's scenes of gore been at least interesting to watch, then, yes, I could have tried to forgive its idiotic story-line.

But, as Phantasm stood it was utter horror-movie junk on all counts.

If I were to actually sum up 1979's "Phantasm" in just 3 itsy-bitsy words - Those words of my choice would be - "Absolute. Putrid. Rubbish."

Yeah. OK - I can understand (40 years ago) an impressionable 16-year-old kid watching this horrific nonsense and (as a result) being satisfactorily "awed" by it.

But seeing this contemptuously erratic excrement today (as a mature-minded adult) - It was, without question, a total insult (on all counts) to the sound reasoning of any thinking person.

Containing no logical coherency, whatsoever - This completely stale fright flick - IMO - Was the absolute nadir of trashy/cheesy 1970's horror.

Since its release in 1979, director Don Coscarelli's epic tale of The Tall Man, his deadly silver Sentinel Spheres, and the group of small town friends who must band together to stop his dimension-hopping schemes has captivated and terrified horror and sci-fi fans around the world. An immediate success, bringing in 40 times its production budget, the film has influenced generations of filmmakers.

This is the first time (and last) that I have watched this pathetic "horror" movie. From the beginning it is slow, cheesy, and even comical. The characters were as lame as the effects, which is pretty much how most films are today, but that's besides the point. I was neither amused nor scared throughout the duration of this film, which to me is more of a mystery for its popularity.

Some movies just dont come across the same as they did 30 years ago..and this is one of them. Really found myself saying " what was I thinking"...bad acting ( normal for horror films back then), stupid characters, and very poor supposed to be "jump" parts, just made me think how young and naive I was back then, or how BAD some of the films really were.

It doesnt hold up, and thats too bad as I was looking forward to this one.

Great movie! I haven't seen this movie in a very long time. The first time I've seen this movie, I couldn't get through it. Now, I can!

I have never found the movie to be scary, but I still think it's one of the best ever in the genre. It's a flawless and captivating film and even seeing it for the 100th time, I watch enrapt.

One of the classics. Very dated, almost too so to be scary, but a must for every horror fan. Watch it with a huge bowl of popcorn and just enjoy it for what it is, a brilliantly done classic film!

I still have a very soft spot for this horror cult classic. There is so much going on in this wild plot that it's hard to really know what exactly is going on and yet it is still extremely entertaining. Has some creepy and jumpworthy moments, but mostly it is all the little things that only Phantasm has the gall to put in the same film all at once. Bad acting and dated effects bounce off Phantasm's armor for me, but I can see how this wouldn't be enjoyed by all. The Tall man. The sphere. The dwarves. The Lady in Lavender. The '70 Barracuda. Come get indoctrinated into the Phantasm mythos!
