Probably the tamest war movie I've ever seen. But still very good!!!

I really enjoyed this rendition of the Battle of the Bulge. Being made only 4 years after the war, they probably used accurate weapons, uniforms, passwords, etc. It also states that the real soldiers of the 101st airborne were extras in the film.

The reason many might dislike this film is because it is out-dated. But being a film from the 1940s, it was pretty good. You need to realize they didn't have CGI back then and the film angles and editing were done nicely. The acting was typical of the 40s. What I also liked about this film was that even though it was no "Saving Private Ryan" or "Band of Brothers", it portrayed that some men had the intention of running and ditching the war every way possible. I love the realness to that, that soldiers were human. If you're a WW2 buff, or into classic cinema, then you should watch this film. If not, you'd find this boring and cheesy.

This is a 1949 American war film directed by William Wellman.
It is the story about a company in the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division as they cope with the Siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
The film is notable for portraying American soldiers as vulnerable and human.
While they remain steadfast and courageous, each soldier has at least one moment in the film when he seriously considers running away, schemes to get sent back from the front line, slacks off, or complains about the situation he is in.
Apparently it is a low-budget film with actual plain war footages embedded here and there.
So, if you expect such exciting and thrilling combat scenes as in "Saving Private Ryan", this is not the one you would like to see.
