Borrowed this National Geographic Explorer DVD as a supplement to my kids' history lesson about Peter The Great. Kids are 13-7 years old. We were thoroughly disappointed. This DVD does not meet the standards of an in-depth Nat Geo magazine article in video form. Same B-actor reenactment clips are shown over and over and over - especially the ones showing beatings, beheadings, and torture with flickering flames in background - with little tie-in to the discussion at hand. Also, reenactments include bed scenes with mistresses. The film failed to show the Russian countryside or historical buildings. The experts frequently referenced "old Moscow ways" without ever defining what they were. They could've at least mentioned the separation of women from men, the blackening of women's teeth for modesty, the beards of the men, the lack of literacy, etc. We didn't learn much from this over-sensationalized film.
