THIS IS DISC#3 OF THE CRITERION COLLECTION, which is heavily edited to be an optimistic version called "Love Conquers All" that includes a different opening scene, formerly cut scenes and an alternate happy ending. As a huge fan of the original, it is interesting to see the film from a cup half full perspective. But Terry Gilliam's final cut version, disc#1, is a masterpiece of dystopian cinema. His film is arguable more important in today's day and age of misinformation and terrorist hysteria. As Harry Tuttle, heating engineer, says in the movie, "We're all in it together, kid!"

5 of 5 stars. The 1984 of the future. Will insane love survive insane bureaucracy? Director Terry Gilliam was the MN-born cartoonist for Monty Python and he has playfully orchestrated his character sketches into a relentlessly thorough fiction.

This is a very good movie that I didn't enjoy when I first watched it years ago. It sets up a very good dystopian future setting and has a fun, well-paced plot. In my opinion, this is Gilliam's masterpiece. I am glad that I enjoyed this so much as opposed to how much Baron Munchausen was a letdown. I loved the ending. Well done in every way. Acting, setting, effects and story.
