This book is a unique view of food, one not largely considered when you think about cookbooks. Recipe books are commonly written with recipes that feed multiple people. They take care with ingredients, amounts and instructions. They can be difficult or easy, approachable (consider Julia Child) or esoteric, modern or ancient (think Apicius). But they are rarely about meals written for one person—yourself.

This book is an absorbing and intriguing look at what happens in the kitchen when the kids are away, the spouse is out of town or you’re simply between partners. It has an air of humor for the experiments that are wacky or just plain wrong, a tinge of sadness for those who have lost loved ones and now have to figure out how to eat alone or the gift of experimentation with foreign cultures and their cuisine.

It comes with many recipes, quite of few of which even the most timid cook will be tempted to try. From cheese squirted on crackers to vegetables and meat fired on the grill to sandwiches made with peanut butter and mayonnaise (surprisingly tasty!), this book would make a enjoyably quirky gift for the foodie, snacker or chef on your gift list.

This is a cute book, and I REALLY liked that the recipes were all scaled to one. Also, these people put me to shame, because I definitely eat a lot of toast when I'm making a meal for just one.

An interesting look at solo dining habits of a variety of people. Some of the things I assumed people had (frozen dinner, soup, popcorn and cereal) were hardly mentioned. It was nice to see that my 2 alone favorites (pasta and canned sardines) got their own chapter - TOGETHER!

Many of the recipes included looked easy, but might require extra grocery shopping for some, which defeats the principle of "lazy cooking."

Definitely recommend...if only to marvel at the food combinations people come up with when they don't have to consider other's preferences.
