While both the title page and the synopsis both imply that the novel would be suspenseful and fast-paced, the story itself was rather slow and at parts, it seemed to be dragging. Overall, it was a disappointment if you were expecting a much more thrilling mystery.

I enjoy the writing style of Wynne-Jones; this is the second book I've read. I like the setting in Canada and that the characters were into kayaking, which is one of my interests. However, I didn't enjoy the characterizations and plot as much as Wynne-Jones' book, "Emperor of Any Place". I am an adult reader.

I have been reading several Teen works by this author, and have not been disappointed. I enjoyed that there continued to be surprises revealed throughout the work instead of one big "Wow" at the end. The main characters were all drawn sympathetically, which made for an interesting dynamic as to who to cheer for. I also enjoyed the fact that the story takes place around Ottawa and region. Recommended for Teens and readers of non-murder mysteries.

The cover misled me since it looked like a spooky horror/thriller. I read half and stopped, but picked it up again months later to finally finish it off due to good reviews.
This book is slow, boring and not the book the summary makes it out to be, especially the "gripping thriller" bit. It wasn't a page-turner for me and didn't engage me as a reader.
I found some parts interesting (the sibling attraction and what would happen when they found out) but it wasn't enough to keep me entertained.
Overall, the characters don't have much depth and development, the plot was slow, and to say the least, this novel was a disappointment.

This book was interesting but really slow for me.

A masterfully crafted story of finding allies and family in unexpected places. Tim Wynne-Jones is truly a literary artist in black and white.

Great book. Good thriller with lots of mystery. Hard to put down.

A real page-turning thriller.

This book looked and started sooo boring..but then I actually LOVED it!!! It was wonderful! I was kind of suspecting the twists but that actually kind of made it better! It was really good.

When I read the synopsis, I was like YUCK but the book was REALLY AMAZING. I read it really fast like the other WhitePine books that I LIKED. There was some insest but by the end, I was able to forget about it. Since this book is about adventure, I thought it was going to be long and draggy like some others I've read but it was REALLY interesting and kept me hooked. Sometimes I was worried that Mimi would get attacked
