This is an absolute horrid adaptation of a comic movie, and yet it's still a good B action movie. Costume must have been torture, not bad for when it was created.

Even by comic book standards, Swamp Thing is pretty bizarre: a lab explosion turns a scientist into a humanoid plant creature that dwells, you guessed it, in the swamp. This 1982 film adaptation follows the basic story, but there's also an evil businessman (French actor Louis Jourdan) who is trying to get his hands on the swamp thing formula. I think. Ray Wise of "Twin Peaks" plays the scientist before he transforms and Adrienne Barbeau ("The Fog") plays his love interest. It's all a bit corny, but entertaining and the special effects, despite their limitations, hold up pretty well. There are echoes of "Creature from the Black Lagoon," "Frankenstein," and "King Kong," among other classic monster movies. Wes Craven directs and it's different than many of his horror films. He would have greater success two years later with "Nightmare on Elm Street." Followed by a sequel.
