Is this like the moon mission where we didn't really go to except in the studio?

Oddly enough, The US government banned the original from VHS to DVD and on You Tube as well.. "What cover-up?" or for any conspiracy theorists. The US hates to be embarrassed by Hollywood!
Please observe the subtle nuances in the manner in which the "spooks" go around and eradicate the "snitches"... def a cult classic!!
"Censorship? my sorry arce." lol

Hal Holbrook, Elliot Gould, Tellie Savalas, all young helping to create the basis for the widely held opinion the US never sent men to the moon. A surprisingly watchable movie.

I liked the story of this movie and overall feel for the movie. I would have enjoyed it way more if I had seen it in the 70s, very dated. So funny watching OJ and his 3 lines in the movie!! Also why do the helicopters turn to face each other???

The paranoid thriller flourished in the 70s, perhaps reflecting the public's increasing cynicism with the government and the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and the JFK conspiracy theories that swirled around. For me John Frankenheimer's "The Manchurian Candidate," starring Frank Sinatra, is ground zero for the modern paranoid thriller, but it really took off in the 70s with films like "3 Days of the Condor," "The Parallax View, " "The Conversation," and "All the President's Men." "Capricorn One" is a somewhat forgotten film about a faked Mars landing. It's a great premise and if the film doesn't quite deliver (especially the ending), it's still got that great, sweaty paranoid vibe and a ridiculously good cast that could've walked off an Altman movie: Elliott Gould, Sam Waterston, Telly Savalas, Karen Black, O.J. Simpson (!), and Deep Throat himself, Hal Holbrook as the brains behind the hoax. Also check out "Day of the Dolphin," which also brings together sci-fi and the political thriller.

ONe of my favourite movies of the 70's and 80's. A genuine " what if" movie that has very good acting, a good story line, suspense, and humour.
Holds up to this day. Highly reccomended.

Excellent sci-fi and thriller about NASA and an empty Mars launch leaving the astronauts to run for their lives. It reminded me of that great political thriller film, The Parallax View, even though the content is totally different. The very end of Capricorn One seemed a bit contrived, but other than that, it was quite excellent.

I couldn't get this to work on 3 different dvd players.

A very good concept for a movie. I think I would have been more impressed had I seen this in the 70's when it was made. The story is the draw here more so than any acting or effects. The ending is a bit long in the tooth, as is the entire movie. Still, a very nice piece of sci-fi. And O.J. Simpson before he was crazy.
