Wonderful production. Good adaptation of the book, splendid music and acting. Little graphic violence thank goodness. Perfect for a few hours of escapism.

I really enjoyed this period drama. The acting is excellent, the scenery spectacular and the romance very moving.

When I find a good historical film, well I go all fluttery. Would you mind administering smelling-salts? Thank you. The background of LD is England's Glorious Revolution, but most time is spent with the feuding Ridd and Doone clans, who "like the Hatfields and McCoys, they were rough and ready boys." Fine acting, gorgeous costumes, romance and derring-do, particularly by stay-loosening Aidan Gillen. One qualm: a poor farmer's daughter not only reads Latin but has eyeglasses. This is almost equal to visiting an average modern home, and finding someone working on a theory of nuclear fusion. BONUS: the tuburcular cough of Hanging Judge Jeffries.
