Out of the Silent Planet introduces Dr. Ransom and chronicles his abduction by a megalomaniacal physicist and his accomplice via space ship to the planet Malacandra. The two men are in need of a human sacrifice and Dr. Ransom would seem to fit the bill. Dr. Ransom escapes upon landing, though, and goes on the run, a stranger in a land that, like Jonathan Swift's Lilliput, is enchanting in its difference from Earth and instructive in its similarity.

I have discovered a true love for CS Lewis. I already knew that I liked the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I hadn't delved into his other works at all. Now I think this one is a favorite. This addresses the errors that human kind has made in treatment of other living creatures. It emphasizes how out of tune we are to the naturally synergistic relationship we have to our surroundings through a fascinating intergalactic tale. I would HIGHLY recommend this book.
