Ciaran Hinds is a world class actor, excellent version, even better than the more recent longer version by BBC although that one is good too.

Based on Jane Austen's last novel published after her early death. All of her novels of the 19th century explore the attitudes and customs of the landed gentry (those that live off their wealth and rental receipts - they do no work).

Ditto, on what someone else here referred to this as "donkey farts" on this production.
In contrast,
I LOVE so much all the other BBC Jane Austen productions,
This one nauseated me by being so wholly bad.

Why were all the actors and actresses so homely and ugly in this production ?
Except for the one actor that they met down at the breaker brick wall at the ocean who had blond hair, he was handsome, ...and then he came to their household later.
Amanda Root looks like a masculine man, heavy bad eyebrows, and no lips.
The leading man looked sleezy, Ciairn Hinds, who played (Captain Wentworth).
All the othe females were not pleasing and were homely, and not feminine, and it was highly distracting.
Their walkabouts could have been filmed and edited in a much more beautiful and exciting manner, but instead were filmed like amateur bad horrible home movies.
The film plot, AND director of photography- planning WAS BORING.
All the other BBC films of Jane Austen, were magnificent, gorgeous, beautifully filmed and directed, and PERFECT.
But,this version is horrible thru and thru.
Even the dancing was not filmed or choreographed correctly.
When that Captain Wentworth didn't even help Anne over the fence, it's just the way he acted it,
In this film, was portrayed as bullying and abusive, not recognizing someone.
And why didnt we see what happened at first, in their past time together, and were left to guess, if having not read the book?
I am in search of a better version of this story.
Stay away, if you love Jane Austen.

My all time favorite film version of Persuasion. Well cast. Superbly acted. Beautifully shot. And, above all, a beautiful love story. Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root are perfect. Jane Austen would surely be very pleased, very pleased indeed.

Another lovely English period piece from BBC The girl morphs from a pubescent numbnut into a sensible person in one film.

Superb. The best of the film versions of Austen's Persuasion.

A lovely film based on the best of Jane Austen's novels. If you like period pieces set in England, you will not be disappointed by this film. Top-notch acting by Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. Do read or listen to the book too.

I liked it a lot. Partway through, I realized I'd seen it before, but had to see it again. I especially liked the set in Bath and the mean sister.

I can't believe the accolades this was given, because honestly I found this probably the worst Austen ever written! The actor who played the father was horrible, his frigging mumbling through his lines made it impossible for me to make out what he says, his posturing was laughable, came across more nelly than anything, very effete! Must be tremendously sad to think that all Austen's female characters ever strode for was society and wealth. So pretentious was this movie that I needed to take a break through it just to get through it. Not at all one of my favorites as I've seen much better performances by much better actors and actresses. Wouldn't recommend it, as this annoying period piece actually sucks donkey farts! It's so BAD that I won't even give it a star rating!
