Even though the story itself was rather dark at times, I really loved the way the author handled it, and I found it to be a very well-written book.

Susan Shaw explores how abuse affects in children and families in "Black Eyed Suzie." She uses Suzie, a young girl who stops eating, sleeping, talking, and playing, to show not only this horrific epidemic, but also to masterfully tell the story of a child suffering a mental breakdown through Suzie's own words.
