When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight, his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and thea dvice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands.

Plot: The fantasy story starts when Eragon finds a dragon egg, while on a hunting trip. An evil bloodthirsty emperor, Galbotrix, has killed most of the dragon eggs, so when Eragon finds one he knows he will get into trouble with the emperor. Soon, Galbotix finds out and sends a group of evil dragon hunters, the Ra’zac, to hunt Eragon and his sapphire blue dragon, Saphira. After they run away from Ra'zac, Eragon and Saphira head to the base of revolutionaries called the Varden, but accidently lure a war hungry army called the Urgals. Since the Urgals work for Galbatorix they try to siege the Varden. Will our heroes be able to beat the Urgal before they extinguish the Vardens supplies?

My thoughts: I believe that Eragon is a great book because of Eragon’s character change and the interesting plot. In the beginning his goal was to seek revenge on a group who killed his family, but later he matures and learns to forgive. The plot is very interesting because of the close bond that is formed between Eragon and Saphira and how they work together to stop an evil army from beating the Varden. If you enjoy tales of dragons and magic Eragon would be a great book for you.

Great book. A fantasy on the same high standard as Harry Potter and The Lord Of The Rings!

The first of a great series, Paolini’s Eragon is one of the greatest books of all time. Eragon is hunting the Spine when he comes across a mysterious sapphire rock. This rock turns out to be a dragon egg, one of the last in existence. When the dragon is born, it bonds itself to Eragon and chooses the name Saphira. However, the mad King Galbatorix has been tracking the egg and sends his evil servants, the Ra'zac to hunt him down. Eragon is sent on the run as he strives to find answers and exact vengeance on the Ra’zac. I loved this book and its new magic rules. I also loved the fantasy aspect and the ancient language that Paolini incorporated into his book. Would highly recommend it!

Long ago, a man named Galbatorix gathered an army with the intent of becoming an emperor with absolute power. He defeated Dragonriders, who were once the main troops of the kingdoms he conquered and killed all dragons to prevent any new ones from usurping his throne. Many years later, a boy, Eragon, finds an egg in the forest one day. When it hatches into a dragon, the king’s men find it and attack the town, sending Eragon and his mentor, Brom, into running away from the king’s authority.

First off, this book is quite large, and the rest of the series is even larger, so if you like shorter books, you might not want to read this. The story itself has its benefits, among them including a diverse cast of characters, and the ability to use them or dispose of them as needed. Also, there are a variety of settings in this book. The plot itself is also engaging, with the Eragon realistically struggling to cope with the rapid change he needs to cope with to survive.

THIS BOOK IS GREAT!!! I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, dwarves, dragons, and action. It's great (not just because there is telepathy) but because it shows that even the most unlikely of people can do great stuff.

As you read on in the cycle, twists are on every corner. EVEN BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER! I couldn't stop reading.

Despite so many tolkinian kind names, map ideas and basically a Star Wars medieval version (same plot, same events and characters roles), it has some interesting things though. Let's see how the saga goes on with the next book.

Really good book! Yes, there is a bit of a Tolkien vibe, but not a lot. I really enjoyed it and will read it again.

Written at a young age by Paolini, most would say that limits the writing ability, but in this case, I say it only enhances the authenticity of his protagonist. Eragon is a young man, seemingly of no importance, but destined for greatness. In this first book of the series, He discovers he is one of a lost order of dragon-riders, perhaps the only one. Through the events of the first book, he begins an epic journey to understand his powers and seek vengeance on those who have hurt him and his family. Expect to be awed by Paolini's rich world-building and detailed descriptions. You'll be happy to know that this thick tome continues in three equally thick sequels.

Eragon told Saphira, "You should land somewhere now and hide. We're going in." "Sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Again." She said sourly. "I know. But Brom and I have some advantages most people don't. We'll be all right." "If anything happens, I'm going to bind you to my back and never let you off."

"Then I will bind you all the tighter."
