This is the autobiography of David Hackworth - America's most decorated living soldier. In this book the author describes his participation in many of the major Cold War flashpoints, from Korea to the Berlin Wall, from the Cuban Missile Crisis to six years in Vietnam. At the height of the Vietnam war he conducted an explosive live-television denouncement of the army's leadership in Vietnam which brought about the end of his military career.

Highly recommended!! I believe David Hackworth is still the most decorated soldier in the history of the US armed forces and the medals he was proudest of were his eight Purple Hearts for battle wounds. That will give you a small look into this Mustang officer's personality from a young seventeen year old at the end of World War two serving in Trieste, Italy and then onto his outstanding service in the Korean war with his beloved Wolfhounds and his Vietnam record only gets better with four combat tours. Most of the army generals hated him unless they needed a tough mission to get done and pull their azzes out of some shit storm they created flying high above the battlefield.
