Good word-smithing considering its fiction about magic and the devil and something I don't usually read.

The third book in the Alvin Maker Series, despite the ridiculous cover art, is darn good SF (Speculative Fiction). In some ways this book harkens back to the first, in that the focus returns to Alvin and his quest to understand himself and what's he's supposed to do with his powerful gifts. Good, thought-provoking stuff, exploring universal themes in a new and interesting way, using the background of an exaggerated, fantastical version of traditional american folklore that is at once familiar and new. Definitely worthwhile.
