Having read Gladys Mitchell's "Come Away Death", I find the similarities of traveler background (scenery, transportation, etc.) to be an interesting comparison to the modern day descriptions in newspapers and magazines. M. M. Kaye places her books in settings with which she is familiar. In this case, she spent a vacation in Cyprus and used her observations as backdrop for the book. The main characters are just a touch overdone--the heroine is too introspective for her 21 years, the hero too much the strong, romantic type. The plot, however, is first rate, the auxiliary characters (mostly suspects) are well drawn and help the plot. The solution moved the previously mysterious details into a picture that then made sense. A good read both from the mystery perspective and the background details.
